Richard joined the firm in 1980 as an Investment Analyst and Fixed Interest specialist after spending the previous 7 years Merchant Banking and Money Market dealing in Wellington with UDC Finance Ltd. Financial Markets experience was gained previously in Johannesburg during a 3 year stay in the Republic of South Africa.

Richard has been a Partner in the firm since 1984 when he was admitted as a Member of the Stock Exchange. When the former New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZSE) was officially demutualised on 4 June 2003, Richard became a Foundation NZX Broker and Advisor.

Richard graduated from the University of Leicester, England with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics and Mathematics and resumed tertiary study part-time while with UDC, completing a B.C.A. degree majoring in accountancy at Victoria University of Wellington in 1980.

In November 1997 Richard was appointed as a Justice of the Peace.

His interests outside of stockbroking include the arts, wine tasting, the gym, tramping and politics.
