Meikayla’s Story

Christchurch born and bred; my football career started at age three playing for Burwood FC (football club). I played football throughout my youth and rose through the NZ National team stages to senior women’s Football Fern, making my debut at the age of 17 as a substitute in a 4-0 win over China in Switzerland in 2013.

To further develop my game, international travel was always on the cards. Initially, I moved from Christchurch to Auckland to be a part of the Football Development Programme (FFDP). I then moved overseas and signed my first professional playing contract for FC Koln then Duisburg in Germany, before progressing to my current 2-year contract for Liverpool FC in the UK.

In the course of my career I attended in 2016 the Olympics in Rio in conjunction with four World Cups (one U17, two U20 captaining my final U20 in 2016 and two senior World Cups). I have recently completed MIQ on my return from the UK, in the lead-up to my second Olympics in Tokyo.

I have always had an interest in the share market. My mother worked for Hamilton Hindin Greene (HHG) in her younger years and then returned part-time once my sister and I started primary school. Mum is now part of the senior management team at HHG with the role of Compliance Manager.

I opened my own individual account with HHG in April of 2019, but my association with HHG and women’s football goes back further when HHG sponsored me during my time playing for the Mainland Pride (Christchurch’s National Woman’s Squad).

HHG Have also supported my investment story. My adviser at HHG has helped me build a portfolio of quality blue chip shares which I can manage from abroad. HHG understands my goals and objectives and I will continue to foster and develop the relationship with my adviser, Grant Davies alongside my International football career.

You can follow my story through HHG’s social media platforms, as I look to prepare with the Football Ferns as a central defender in the build-up to the Olympics in Tokyo, my experiences in Tokyo and the lead-up to NZ/Australia’s home-grown World Cup in 2023, whilst I continue my professional career at Liverpool FC Women.
