HHG’s sponsors U20 New Zealand Handball Player – Kaspar Hayes
My name is Kaspar Hayes and I have just finished my second year of studying Geography and Statistics at the University of Canterbury. After my daily lectures, I work as an English and Maths tutor for primary and secondary students at NumberWorks n Words. I am very passionate about my work and studies, hoping to work my way into the field of climate science and climate research. Whilst this takes up the majority of my week, my passion lies with physical activity and sports.
This year I have played rugby for the Sumner Colts, AFL for the Eastern Blues and handball for the Canterbury Quakes. Outside of my team sports, I run, mountain bike, surf and go to the gym to keep fit and spend more time out in the sun.
This year, I am excited to have been selected to represent New Zealand in the Handball Under 20 team. On December 14th, our team will begin our trip to Tahiti where we will compete in the Oceania Championship against Australia, French Polynesia and New Caledonia. Handball is a fast-paced game which requires a wide range of skills and, as a country, New Zealand is still a developing nation with many not having heard of the sport before. We aim to not only reclaim the top spot at Oceania Champs, but also demonstrate how far New Zealand handball has come in advancing competitive teams players. I am very grateful for the opportunity to represent New Zealand in the coming weeks and extremely thankful for the support and funding provided by Hamilton Hindin Greene to help me pursue my dream.
